I spent my birthday in Boston with one of my best friends - Karine. I've always wanted to see Boston and what better time than my birthday?
We arrived on Friday evening and after checking into the hotel went in search of some great New England seafood. We ended up at Legal Seafood -- I loved the clam chowder, Sam Adams Octoberfest and Boston cream pie...YUM!
On Saturday we toured the Sam Adam's Brewery. It was really interesting -- we got to see and taste all of the individual ingredients that go into the beer. We also got to rub the hops between our hands and smell the bitter fragrance. The best part of the tour was when we got to taste 4 different kinds of Sam Adams, including one that is not on the market yet.
Another fun fact: the brewery in Boston only brews beer for local bars, pubs and liquor stores.
Tasted a lot like Oats of Honey!
Specialty beer that needs to brew for a year and a half
We also went to Cambridge to visit the Harvard campus. Then we went back to Boston and followed the Freedom Trail (Paul Revere's Midnight Ride route) to Quincy Market and eventually North End.
The Freedom Trail was marked by red brick
Quincy Market - an open market with street performers and several shops/booths.
My favorite thing about Boston was North End. This is the Italian district -- it was absolutely beautiful and the pasta was unreal. Right now is also the appropriate time to admit that Karine took FAR more pictures than I did. I gave her a hard time, but as I go through my photos now I have to say that I will be updating this post with some of her pictures once I get my hands on them.
More on North End -- we went to a great Italian place (they're all great I've heard). We were told to wait 10 minutes and then the hostess came to get us and told us to "follow her". We were then lead up a set of stairs that looked as though we were going to an apartment. However, we eventually came to a hidden part of the restaurant and ended up on the rooftop with a beautiful sky light. Best. Pasta. Ever.
My wonderful boyfriend had a bottle of wine waiting for us in our hotel room when we returned on Saturday night for my birthday -- what a great surprise!
On Sunday we went to see the Harbor and then walked through the Boston Public Garden on our way toward Newberry Street. The Public Gardens was beautiful and Newberry Street was very quaint.

If you've never been to Boston I'd highly recommend it! And if you do I'd suggest that you:
- Visit North End and eat pasta (seriously don't miss this!)
- Walk through the Boston Public Gardens
- Shop in Quincy Market
- Eat clam chowder
In other news...I am moving into my apartment this weekend. Pictures to come!
